Goal, Goaaal, Goaaaaaal!

Finally, a somewhat convincing game by FC Magdeburg. After weeks of dietary products, quality-wise, Magdeburg were able to beat and outclass VfB Lübeck yesterday. Still no goals by our forwards, but as long as Björn Lindemann can compensate, that doesn’t really matter.

The first half of the game was similar to the Cottbus and Dresden matches, with the notable difference that this time the club had more opportunities to take the lead. And just 120 seconds after Lindemann had only hit the post, he scored off a deflected Kullmann pass from the goal line. A wonderful lob into the right top corner left Lübeck’s goalie short of ways to prevent the goal.
Shortly before halftime, Prest had the opportunity to make it 2-0, but he showed his defensive abilities by only putting the ball low outside the far post. Exactly after 45 minutes the ref signalled for the break, prompting an outburst of anger from Kullmann, as Magdeburg had just gotten another attack on the way. The referee awarded him a yellow card for that…

After the break, Lübeck tried to push for the equaliser and Magdeburg’s defense offered them some opportunities, but nothing could be gained from that. In the 57th, Kullmann had another opportunity, but Lübeck’s defender Hirsch scratched the boal off the line. In the ensuing corner, Gerster crossed the ball precisely onto Christian Prest whose header was unstoppable and brought the 2-0, just when Lübeck had seemed to be gaining onto Magdeburg.
In the 70th, new Magdeburg player Ivica Jaraković was subbed in, and while he didn’t have any decisive actions, it was plain to see that he is a good buy, he has vision, technique and just knows where to be, just like a forward ought to. After his substitution, Lindemann headed a Wejsfelt freekick towards the goal, and when Tornieporth got hold of the deflected ball, Lindemann was still standing alone in front of goal and had no problems scoring his 5th goal of the season, making him FCM’s top goalgetter and 2nd in the league.
Magdeburg with a deserved win against a weak Lübeck, for whom it was the second 0-3 defeat within 5 days.
